Oh! Edo Rocket is a Japanese animated comedy series that takes place in the Edo period. It follows the story of Seikichi Tamaya, a fireworks maker who dreams of creating the greatest fireworks in Japan. In a world where fireworks are forbidden, Seikichi’s dreams seem impossible to achieve, until he meets Sora, a mysterious woman who offers to help him. In season 1 episode 2 titled "The Man Waited," Seikichi and Sora continue their quest to launch rockets in Edo by searching for a man named Dr. Kanbee.
The episode begins with Seikichi and Sora getting lost in the forest while searching for Dr. Kanbee. Sora uses her powers to sense his location, but they end up stumbling upon a group of bandits instead. The bandits threaten to rob them, but Seikichi devises a plan to distract them with a fireworks display, allowing them to escape.
Afterward, they finally find Dr. Kanbee’s house, but he is not there. Instead, they find an old man named Lord Harukan, who has been waiting for Dr. Kanbee for over 30 years. Lord Harukan tells Seikichi and Sora the story of Dr. Kanbee, who was a brilliant inventor and the only person who could potentially save his life. However, Dr. Kanbee disappeared before he could complete the medicine that would save Lord Harukan’s life, and no one has heard from him since.
Seikichi and Sora offer to help find Dr. Kanbee, hoping that he could also help them with their rocket launch. They discover a clue in the form of a scroll that Dr. Kanbee left behind, which leads them to a secluded island. On the island, they stumble upon a secret laboratory where Dr. Kanbee has been hiding all these years. They find him working on a new invention, a mechanical bird that he hopes will fly.
Seikichi and Sora tell Dr. Kanbee about their quest to launch rockets in Edo, and he agrees to help them in exchange for their assistance in completing his mechanical bird. They spend the night working on the invention, which proves to be a difficult task. Seikichi shares a touching moment with Dr. Kanbee, who reveals that he has been in hiding all these years because he was branded a heretic for his inventions.
The next day, Dr. Kanbee reveals that he cannot help Seikichi and Sora with their rocket launch because he does not want to put them in danger. However, he surprises them with a gift, a miniature rocket that he made himself. Seikichi and Sora are overjoyed and thank Dr. Kanbee for his kindness.
As they leave the island, Seikichi and Sora reflect on their journey and the people they have met along the way. They vow to continue pursuing their dreams and helping others, just like Dr. Kanbee. The episode ends with Seikichi launching Dr. Kanbee’s miniature rocket, which signals the beginning of their next adventure.
Overall, episode 2 of Oh! Edo Rocket is a heartwarming and adventurous journey that explores themes of friendship, perseverance, and the pursuit of one's dreams. With its unique blend of comedy and drama and its colorful cast of characters, the show is sure to delight viewers of all ages.
