Because of the demands of tending to the new baby, both Charlie and Daphne are seriously sleep deprived. As a result, it's increasingly difficult for Charlie to make good on his many promises to Owen. Begging off an invitation to a family dinner, Ned says he's skipping parent's weekend at school to study and take in a movie. But, after Bailey finds that a successful restaurateur is planning to locate across the street from Salinger's, Julia learns that Ned may be lying about his plans. Meanwhile, Claudia wants to quit school and return home. Returning to school unannounced, Julia discovers Ned with his parents and his autistic brother, Richie. While sure that Richie is the reason he's avoiding her, Ned explains that he didn't want her meeting his overbearing dad. As Charlie and Daphne battle over whose turn it is to care for Diana, Bailey undercuts Sean Sullivan by having his new chef hired by a friend. However, he's is unprepared when Sullivan retaliates by having him arrested for serving alcohol as a minor. Meanwhile, as Charlie can do little to help Owen from feeling neglected, Claudia gets caught pulling a prank at school. Over dinner, Julia begins to see just what Ned was talking about when he referred to their difficult relationship. And when Dr. and Mrs. Grayson reveal how much they like her over Maggie, Julia decides to bow out so as not to make Ned';s life any more complicated. Meanwhile, though he delights both Charlie and Daphne when he succeeds at getting Diana to sleep, Owen begins to withdraw from his older brother. And after Bailey calls the immigration authorities to shut down Sullivan, his dad's former business partner isn't impressed. Finally, as Charlie insists that Claudia stay at school for now, Julia reprimands Ned for trying to disappoint his father.
