After bidding farewell to Unova, Ash, Iris, and Cilan arrive in a new region called Kalos. They disembark at Lumiose City and are immediately impressed by its towering skyscrapers and bustling streets. As they wander through the city, they come across a group of local trainers who are preparing to participate in a Butterfree catching competition. Ash is intrigued by the idea and decides to enter the contest himself.

To prepare for the competition, Ash begins training Pikachu and his other Pokemon. He also does some research on Butterfree to learn more about its behavior and habitat. One night, while he's studying, he hears a strange noise outside and goes to investigate. He discovers a group of wild Butterfree who are in danger of being attacked by a group of predatory Pokemon. Without hesitation, Ash jumps into action to protect the Butterfree.

After the incident, Ash develops a deep connection with the Butterfree and decides to enter the catching competition with the goal of catching one of them. During the contest, Ash and Pikachu face off against several other trainers, including a tough opponent named Tomas. Ash's perseverance and skills are put to the test as he fights his way through each round. With the help of his friends and the Butterfree, he ultimately emerges victorious.

In the end, Ash is able to capture one of the wild Butterfree that he had saved earlier. He names the new addition to his team "Flutter" and promises to take good care of it. The experience of catching his first Kalos Pokemon and forming a bond with the Butterfree has left a lasting impression on Ash. It also sets the stage for more exciting adventures and competitions to come as he explores the new region of Kalos.
