A documentary series that takes a look at the heroic conservation efforts that have gone into saving certain species from the very bring of going extinct. Each episode focuses on one animal's story starting with the successful fight to reintroduce the California Condor and its heartening recovery over the past two decades. Other species profiled include the Arabian Oryx, the Hawksbill Turtle, and the Przewalski Horse. But even in these stories of triumph danger still lurks in the form of threats old and new, like pollution, habitat loss, and lack of genetic diversity in species restored from small captive populations.

  • By 1969 Przewalski's wild horses had vanished in the wild, but 12 survivors remained in different zoos. Though these survivors are once again roaming the Mongolian wilds, now a genetic anomaly is threatening the fragile Przewalski population.
