Ep 3. False Face, False Heart

Harlee Santos, played by Jennifer Lopez, is a single mother and police officer working for the New York Police Department's (NYPD) anti-corruption task force, led by Lieutenant Matt Wozniak (Ray Liotta). In Shades of Blue season 1 episode 3, titled False Face, False Heart, Harlee is still struggling with the aftermath of her decision to work with the FBI to bring down her corrupt police unit. The episode begins with Harlee in her car watching video footage of Wozniak beating up a man who owed him money. She is visibly disturbed by what she sees.

Meanwhile, Detective Tufo (Hampton Fluker) is investigating a case involving a wealthy businessman who has been robbed and left for dead. The victim's wife point's finger at a member of her husband's own family. Tufo discovers that the business was in financial trouble and the family member was desperate for money, making him a likely suspect.

Back at the precinct, Harlee is confronted by Internal Affairs detectives who have been investigating her since the death of Miguel Zepeda, a rival gang member who was accidentally killed during a shoot-out between Harlee and a fellow corrupt police officer, Detective Loman (Dayo Okeniyi). The detectives accuse Harlee of being involved in Zepeda's death and threaten to charge her with murder. Harlee is also dealing with the guilt of having betrayed her colleagues and is feeling isolated and alone.

In an attempt to reconnect with her daughter, Cristina (Sarah Jeffery), Harlee takes her to a cheerleading competition. However, during the competition, Harlee receives a phone call from FBI Agent Stahl (Warren Kole) who informs her that he needs her help to catch a dirty judge who is laundering money for the mob. Stahl wants Harlee to wear a wire and get the judge to incriminate himself. Harlee is torn between her loyalty to her colleagues and her obligation to the FBI.

Later, Harlee meets with Wozniak and tells him about the Internal Affairs investigation. Wozniak informs Harlee that he has a plan to take down the department that is investigating her and that he needs her help. Harlee agrees to help him, but she is still uncertain of Wozniak's true motives.

The episode ends with Harlee wearing a wire and meeting with the dirty judge. She manages to get him to incriminate himself and the FBI arrests him. However, things take a surprising turn when Harlee learns that the judge was only a small-time player and that the real mastermind behind the money laundering operation is someone much closer to home.

Shades of Blue season 1 episode 3, False Face, False Heart, is a tense and action-packed episode that explores the complex relationships between Harlee, her colleagues, and the FBI. The episode raises questions about loyalty, trust, and the lengths that people will go to protect their own interests.
