Ep 9. Sanctuary

In Sleepy Hollow season 1 episode 9, entitled Sanctuary, Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills are faced with a new adversary – a shiny, reflective demon that can take possession of people's bodies with just a touch.

The episode begins with the discovery of an abandoned church where a group of people, who have been possessed by the aforementioned demon, have taken refuge. Ichabod and Abbie are called in to investigate by Sheriff Corbin's son, who is now working as a deputy and has stumbled upon the church while out on patrol. When they arrive at the scene, they find that the church is surrounded by a supernatural barrier and that the demon inside is intent on keeping its new hosts trapped.

As the team tries to figure out how to breach the barrier, we learn more about the demon's history and how it came to be in Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod and Abbie discover that the demon was summoned by a group of Satanists in the 1800s, who used it to do their bidding before ultimately sealing it away. However, the demon was released when a construction crew unearthed the coffin where it had been locked away.

As the situation inside the church becomes increasingly dire, Ichabod and Abbie come up with a plan to enter the barrier and exorcise the demon. However, they soon learn that the demon has a new trick up its sleeve – it can create illusions that are so realistic that they are almost impossible to distinguish from reality. This leads to some tense moments as our heroes are forced to confront their deepest fears and vulnerabilities.

Meanwhile, there are some interesting developments in the personal lives of our two protagonists. Ichabod continues to struggle with his feelings for his wife, Katrina, and his growing attraction to Abbie. Abbie also confronts some of her own emotional baggage as she deals with the implications of her sister's involvement in the supernatural world.

Overall, Sleepy Hollow season 1 episode 9 is a strong and suspenseful entry in the series. The demon of the week is suitably creepy and formidable, and the exploration of our heroes' emotional struggles adds an extra layer of depth to the story. Fans of the show will not want to miss this one.
