Supergirl Season 1 Episode 5 How Does She Do It?

Kara faces a new challenge as National City's beloved hero, Supergirl when she finds herself dealing with a series of bombings around the city. Meanwhile, her boss, media mogul Cat Grant, prepares for an award with a positive spin on National City that takes the focus off the recent attacks.

Adding to Kara's stress, her best friend's mother, Eliza Danvers, arrives in town to celebrate her daughter Alex's recent promotion to head of the DEO. This visit puts pressure on Kara as she struggles to balance her superhero duties, work responsibilities and her personal life.

As the investigation into the bombings deepens, Supergirl discovers a surprising connection between the attacks and a mother struggling to balance her own responsibilities as a single parent. As Kara helps this woman, we see the parallels with Kara's own dual life and how she empathizes with the difficult choices the woman has had to make.

Meanwhile, Cat Grant's self-absorbed assistant, Siobhan Smythe, becomes jealous of Kara's position as Cat's trusted confidant, and sets out to undermine her at work.

Despite the obstacles in her way, Kara manages to thwart the bombers and their nefarious plan to blow up a new airport with a special surprise of her own. In the end, Kara's ability to juggle her different responsibilities as Supergirl and Kara Danvers impresses both her boss and her best friend's mother.

As the episode concludes we also see a glimpse into the larger world of Supergirl with a guest appearance by The Flash, who crosses the multiverse to deliver a warning to Supergirl that she will soon face a dangerous threat.
