Surprise Homecoming is an American reality-based mini-series hosted by actor and singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Working with the military veterans' organization known as Operation Homefront, the series helps to reunite American soldiers and sailors with their families after spending time overseas. The show currently airs on the U.S. cable network TLC. Each hour-long episode highlights three homecomings. Two of them are set-up by the producers of the program. In these segments individual interviews with the military personnel and their families are interspersed with scenes of the soldier in action, the events leading up to the surprise, and the homecoming itself. A third segment features a reunion personally handled by host Billy Ray, who also narrates other pieces and conducts interviews with the participants. Between these segments are surprise reunions submitted by viewers via a website submission. These homecomings are a mix of personal interviews, home video, and reactions from friends and relatives. The reunions in Surprise Homecoming vary. In the premiere episode a daughter surprised her mother during a party at a local hospital. In another installment of the series a naval petty officer reunited with his family at a carnival they regularly visited in the past. Other homecomings have taken place during a child's eighth birthday party, a dance recital, and a company picnic. One soldier even returned home to surprise his girlfriend with an engagement ring. Surprise Homecoming is produced by Authentic Entertainment and premiered on TLC on May 30, 2011, running for eight episodes that ended on August 22nd. The title song to the series, Runway Lights, was written and sung by host Cyrus. As of this writing no new episodes of the series have been ordered.
