In The FBI Files season 1 episode 7, entitled "The Crazy Don," the focus is on a notorious crime boss by the name of Joe Profaci. Profaci was the head of the Profaci crime family, which was one of the five major Mafia families operating in America during the mid-1900s.

The episode begins with the discovery of the body of Vito Genovese, one of Profaci's top lieutenants. Genovese had been shot eight times in the face and torso, and his body was found in a deserted alleyway in New York City. The FBI was called in to investigate, and they immediately suspected that the killer was someone within the Profaci crime family.

As the investigation unfolded, the FBI learned that Profaci and Genovese had been involved in a bitter power struggle for control of the family. Genovese believed that he should be the one in charge, and he had even tried to have Profaci assassinated in the past. But Profaci had survived the attempt, and he was determined to eliminate anyone who threatened his hold on the family.

The FBI also discovered that Profaci had a long history of violent behavior. He was known to be unpredictable and vicious, with a quick temper and a tendency to resort to violence at the slightest provocation. He had been involved in a number of murders and other criminal activities over the years, and he had built up a network of loyal associates who were willing to do his bidding no matter what.

As the investigation continued, the FBI began to get closer to the truth about who had killed Genovese. They discovered that it was one of Profaci's own men, a hitman named Salvatore Granello, who had been hired to carry out the murder. Granello had been promised a large sum of money by Profaci in exchange for carrying out the hit, but he had gotten cold feet at the last minute and had fled the scene without collecting his payment.

With the help of an informant, the FBI was able to track down Granello and bring him into custody. Granello eventually confessed to the murder and provided the FBI with valuable information about Profaci's criminal empire. He revealed that Profaci was involved in a wide range of criminal activities, including extortion, loan sharking, and illegal gambling. He also described Profaci as a dangerous and unpredictable leader who would stop at nothing to maintain his hold on power.

Armed with this information, the FBI was able to build a case against Profaci and his associates. They launched a series of raids on the family's headquarters and arrested dozens of members on charges ranging from murder to racketeering. Profaci himself was eventually indicted on a variety of charges, including extortion and conspiracy to commit murder.

In the end, Profaci was sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined $40,000. He died in 1962, while still in prison, but his legacy as one of the most notorious crime bosses in American history lives on. "The Crazy Don" is a thrilling episode that offers an inside look at the ruthless world of organized crime and the tireless efforts of law enforcement to bring down the most dangerous criminals of our time.
