In the season 4 premiere of The Goldbergs titled "Breakfast Club," we find the family adjusting to their new life without Pops. The episode begins with Barry, Erica, and Adam each dealing with the loss of their grandfather in their own way. Barry is trying to distract himself by constantly working out and pretending everything is okay. Erica is struggling to find solace in her grief and is taking her anger out on her family. Adam, meanwhile, is using his video camera to document every moment and emotion. Mama Goldberg is trying her best to keep the family together and help them grieve in their own ways.

As their father, Murray, tries to keep things lighthearted with an inappropriate joke about Pops, Mama Goldberg decides to take matters into her own hands and suggests they should all get out of the house and do something as a family. They agree to go out for breakfast, and on their way there, they bump into various people in the community, each with their own special memory of Pops.

The family arrives at their favorite diner, Chris' with Pops being a regular there, as well. The diner brings back memories of Pops for the family, and they end up sharing stories with Chris, the owner. Mama Goldberg suggests that they should all eat Pops' favorite breakfast and, while they enjoy the food, they reminisce about Pops.

As they continue to share stories about Pops, the family sees how much of an impact he had on everyone. They learn that even though Pops is gone, he will always be with them, in their memories and in spirit.

Throughout the episode, we see the family dealing with their individual grief in their own ways. Barry's constant working out is a metaphor for him trying to push his emotions away, while Erica's anger and frustration is a way for her to cope with her sadness. Adam's video camera is his way of preserving memories, which he can watch later when he misses Pops.

The 80s nostalgia is still a significant factor in the show, as Adam's camera is an old VHS camcorder, and they get to see the old brunch-style diner that was popular in the 80s. The episode is humorous and entertaining, but it still captures the essence of dealing with grief and the importance of family support.

In conclusion, "Breakfast Club" is the perfect season 4 premiere for The Goldbergs. It shows the reality of dealing with loss, while still providing lighthearted moments and the nostalgia that fans of the show have come to love. The family comes together to celebrate the life of Pops, and we, the viewers, are reminded of the importance of family in our lives.
