Ultra Seven is a Japanese tokusatsu series that aired from 1967 to 1968. Produced by Tsuburaya Productions, it was the third entry in the Ultra Series and a direct sequel to the original Ultraman. The show features the extraterrestrial hero, Ultra Seven, who comes to Earth to fight against evil aliens, monsters and other threats.

The show follows the adventures of Dan Moroboshi (played by Shinsuke Achiha), a member of the Earth Defense Force (EDF) who transforms into Ultra Seven using a human disguise. Dan is a strong, brave and devoted hero who fights for justice and peace. His powers include super strength, flight, energy beams, and the ability to transform into different shapes and sizes. Dan is supported by the members of the EDF, including Commander Edogawa (played by Sandayu Dokumamushi) and his assistant, Anne Yuri (played by Yuriko Hishimi).

One of the unique aspects of Ultra Seven is its use of unconventional storytelling techniques. Unlike other tokusatsu shows of its time, Ultra Seven often used non-linear narratives, experimental cinematography and complex character development. The show also explored mature themes such as identity, sacrifice, and the morality of heroism.

Ultra Seven's production value was also ahead of its time. The show used advanced special effects techniques such as miniatures, chroma key compositing, and practical creature suits. The designs of the monsters and aliens were creative and memorable, and they often had unique abilities and weaknesses that Ultra Seven had to exploit.

Ultra Seven became a cultural phenomenon in Japan and all over the world. The show inspired toy lines, video games, manga, and several sequels and spinoffs in the Ultra Series. It also had a lasting impact on the tokusatsu genre and pop culture in general.

The main character in Ultra Seven is played by Bin Furuya, who also played the original Ultraman. Although Ultra Seven was intended to be a separate character from Ultraman, they shared many similarities, such as their silver and red color scheme, and their popularity among fans. Furuya's performance as Dan Moroboshi was a standout in the series, and he added depth and emotion to the character's heroic persona.

The supporting cast of Ultra Seven also delivered strong performances. Sandayu Dokumamushi brought gravitas and authority to Commander Edogawa, while Yuriko Hishimi provided a relatable and sympathetic presence as Anne Yuri. The chemistry between the three characters added to the show's charm and heart.

One of the reasons why Ultra Seven was so successful was its appeal to both children and adults. The show had thrilling action and monster battles for kids, but also complex themes and character arcs that adults could appreciate. This made Ultra Seven stand out among other tokusatsu shows of its time, which often had simplistic plots and stereotypical characters.

In conclusion, Ultra Seven is a groundbreaking and influential tokusatsu series that revolutionized the genre. Its unconventional storytelling techniques, advanced special effects, and complex characters made it a classic that still holds up today. The show's hero, Ultra Seven, is a beloved icon in Japan and around the world, and his adventures continue to inspire fans of all ages.
