Ep 6. South Korea

The Hairy Bikers' Asian Adventure season 1 episode 6 explores the rich culinary and cultural heritage of South Korea. As they begin their journey, the duo visit the bustling city of Seoul and are introduced to the vibrant street food scene. They sample some of the classic Korean barbecue dishes such as bulgogi and galbi, marinated beef and pork dishes, respectively. They also indulge in some traditional snacks such as gimbap, which is similar to sushi, and tteokbokki, a spicy rice cake dish.

Moving on, the duo travels to the countryside of South Korea to get a taste of the traditional cuisine. They visit a local farm where they get to harvest seasonal vegetables and learn about the traditional ways of farming. The Hairy Bikers work alongside the farmers and enjoy a fresh and healthy meal made with the farm-fresh ingredients.

Continuing their journey, Dave and Si visit the Gyeongju city, the ancient capital of Korea, and explore its rich history and culture. They visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bulguksa Temple and learn about the Buddhist traditions. The Hairy Bikers also visit the local market and try some of the specialty dishes such as the famous sweet and savory pancake, bindaetteok, made with mung beans.

As their journey comes to a close, the Hairy Bikers visit a restaurant famous for its royal court cuisine, a style of cooking that has been preserved for centuries in Korea. The duo samples some of the exquisite dishes such as gungjung tteokbokki, a non-spicy version of rice cakes served in a soy-based sauce with various meats and vegetables, and sinseollo, a hot pot dish filled with various meats, fish, and vegetables. The Hairy Bikers are amazed by the precision and complexity involved in preparing these dishes.

Throughout the episode, the duo not only explores the culinary delights of South Korea but also takes in the cultural and historical aspects of the country. They embrace the traditional ways of life and immerse themselves in the local community, gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of the country and its people.
