In The Mentalist season 5 episode 16, titled "There Will Be Blood," Simon Baker returns as Patrick Jane, a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) who uses his keen observational skills and expertise in human behavior to help catch criminals.
The episode opens with a gruesome murder at a winery in Napa Valley, where the victim has been impaled on a giant corkscrew. Jane and his CBI team arrive on the scene to investigate, and soon discover that the victim was a well-known wine critic who had just published a scathing review of the winery's latest vintage.
As they delve deeper into the case, Jane and his colleagues encounter a range of suspects, including the winery's owner (played by guest star William Atherton), who is struggling to keep his business afloat; the victim's ex-wife and business partner, who had a bitter falling out with him; and a former employee who was fired by the winery for ethical violations.
The investigation takes several twists and turns, as Jane uncovers hidden motives and dark secrets in the world of wine-making. Along the way, he also deals with personal issues, including his unresolved feelings for his former girlfriend, CBI agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney).
As the episode builds to its climactic conclusion, Jane and his team race against the clock to catch the killer before they can strike again. With suspenseful twists and memorable performances, "There Will Be Blood" is a standout episode in The Mentalist's acclaimed fifth season.
