Watch The War of Flower

The War of Flower is the Korean phrasing for the film The Flowers of War. The film was directed by Yimou Zhang and released in 2011. The film is based on a novel by the same name written by Geling Yan, and adapted for the screen by Heng Liu. The War of Flower deals with a group of Chinese prostitutes and children hiding in a church house during the Japanese rape of Nanking. The church has a foreigner hiding in the church as well. The foreigner decides to impersonate as a priest in order to lead the group to safety. The film deals heavily with sacrifice and honor in the face of overwhelming adversity. The War of Flower features an early performance by Batman star Christian Bale. This is an interesting choice as Christian Bale also stared in Empire of the Sun when he was a child. The film also features an excellent performance by veteran Korean actor Ni Ni.
