This is a look at the road that Pixar traveled to reach the completion of Toy Story. We explore this journey with the computer technologists, animators, directors, producers, actors, and clips from the movie. Pixar began with creating 30-second commercials, progressed to 3 to 5 minute movie shorts, and then jumped headlong into creating the first ever full-length movie of its kind that wound up taking the world by storm.

The goal was to tell a story in such a way that people forget about the fact that it is computer generated. Steve Jobs played a role in this journey to teach them that if they do their job right then it will last forever. In exploring what kind of story they wanted to create for this project they settled on the buddy movie. During the creation, Pixar was told that they needed to give it edge so that it would appeal to adults as well as children. In heeding this advice, they began to stray from their instincts of how the story should go and the project was almost taken from their control. Fortunately, they were able to save control, and the rest as they say is history.
