Trading Spaces Season 4 Episode 3 Minnesota: Pleasure Creek Circle

  • September 13, 2003

In Trading Spaces season 4 episode 3, titled Minnesota: Pleasure Creek Circle, two neighboring families in Minnesota give each other complete creative control over the redesign of their living spaces. The families, the Wirths and the Fabischeks, are longtime friends who live on Pleasure Creek Circle. The Wirths are assigned to redesign the Fabischeks' living room and master bedroom, while the Fabischeks tackle the Wirths' family room and dining room.

As the teams come together and begin planning their designs, tensions arise due to differing opinions on style and color scheme. The Wirths prefer a more neutral palette, while the Fabischeks lean towards bold, bright colors. The designers, Edward Walker and Genevieve Gorder, work to find a compromise between the two families, ultimately settling on a contemporary, minimalist look with touches of bold color.

The Fabischeks get to work on the Wirths' family room first, opting for an eye-catching accent wall and a statement piece of furniture in the form of a reclaimed wood coffee table. They also surprise the Wirths with a custom-built wall-to-wall bookshelf- a particular surprise since the family mentioned they'd never tackled a DIY project of that scale. The Fabischeks also add a pop of color through accent pillows and accessories.

Next, the Wirths set to work on the Fabischeks' living room, which they see as lacking personality and warmth. They opt for rich textures and earthy hues, using a reclaimed wood feature wall and layering cozy throws and pillows on the furniture. The team puts in an impressive reveal by adding a stunning fireplace surround using handmade Moroccan tiles. The Wirths' love for nature is also evident, as they incorporate several potted plants and botanical prints into the design.

Finally, the Fabischeks take on the master bedroom with the goal of creating a "sanctuary" for the couple to escape to. They introduce a new color palette, including jewel tones and a warm burgundy accent wall. The team also adds metallic accents and luxurious bedding to create a space that feels indulgent and sophisticated.

The Wirths redesign the Fabischeks' dining room and create a rustic yet modern space with custom-built wood shelving and a live edge table. The team repurposes the Fabischeks' existing buffet by painting it in a rich navy to tie in with the room's color scheme. They finish off their reveal with a unique pendant light that adds a touch of industrial style to the space.

Throughout the episode, tensions rise as the families struggle to communicate their visions for their respective spaces. However, in the end, both teams come together to create designs that meet in the middle, showcasing their unique styles while creating cohesive, functional spaces. Trading Spaces season 4 episode 3 is a fun, entertaining watch for anyone interested in interior design and DIY projects.
