Ready to Rumble is an action comedy set in the world of professional wrestling. David Arquette and Scott Caan portray Gordie Boggs and Sean Dawkins, respectively. Gordie and Scott are big pro wrestling fans and watch every World Championship Wrestling show and event. They make their living driving a septic truck and are excited about attending the live show in their home town. Gordie's parents are not supportive of his wrestling addiction and they urge him to go to the police academy.
Things start to go downhill for the duo as they crash their work truck and they find out that their favorite wrestler, Jimmy King, lost his world title and was run out of WCW. King was cheated by the evil promoter, Titus Sinclair. Sinclair enlisted the help of the wrestling bad guys to beat up King and steal the title. Gordie and Sean decide to seek out Jimmy King and plan for revenge against Sinclair and Page.
Gordie and Sean try looking for Jimmy and are directed by his ex-wife and his parents to a dilapidated mobile home where King now resides. He is reluctant to accept their help but they convince him to get back into shape and try to reclaim his title. They visit his wrestling mentor, Sal Bandini and he whips Jimmy back into ring condition. Jimmy and the guys head back to WCW. Along the way Gordie hooks up with a beautiful WCW dancer and attends a WCW party, where they get drunk with "Mean" Gene Okerlund. Titus Sinclair sends two thugs to stop Jimmy and they attack Sal, putting him in the hospital. The film's climax is set at a WCW show, where Dallas Page fights Jimmy King for the WCW World Title. Sinclair's henchmen interfere, but Gordie and Sean are there to get Jimmy's back.
Several real life wrestling stars appear in the film including Sting, Randy Savage, Bill Goldberg and Booker T. The film co-stars Martin Landau as Sal Bandini and Oliver Platt as Jimmy King.
