A Capitol Fourth is a patriotic celebration that takes place annually on the Fourth of July, celebrating America's independence as a nation. It is a reverential production that is meant to remind everyone of the freedom, courage, and sacrifice of the men and women who made America what it is today. The show is broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, where thousands of people gather to take part in this annual tradition.

The 2004 production featured renowned TV personality Tom Bergeron as the host, who welcomed a distinguished lineup of artists and musicians to pay tribute to America's rich history through the power of song, dance, and spoken word. Bergeron brought his signature wit and charm to the stage, guiding the audience through an uplifting and heartwarming journey of the American spirit.

The show opened with a stirring rendition of the national anthem, performed by the legendary Air Force Band. The audience was then treated to an array of performances by some of the hottest stars of the day. Jimmy Smits, famous for his roles in "L.A. Law," "NYPD Blue," and "The West Wing," also made an appearance, offering his insight and perspective on what it means to be an American.

Other performers in the lineup included the Grammy-nominated R&B group Boyz II Men, Broadway sensation Tony Danza, and country music star Jo Dee Messina, all of whom gave unforgettable performances that culminated in a breathtaking fireworks display that lit up the night sky.

Throughout the show, the audience was treated to an array of musical genres, including rock, country, gospel, and classical. The eclectic mix of performers represented the diverse and vibrant cultural landscape of the United States, and the music was carefully selected to celebrate the country's past, present, and future.

In between musical acts, the audience was also treated to a series of moving speeches and tributes to America's veterans and service men and women, who have fought bravely to defend the country and its ideals. These tributes were particularly poignant, serving to remind everyone in attendance that the true essence of America lies in its people, and the perseverance and courage they demonstrate every day.

As the sun began to set and the finale approached, the crowd erupted in applause, and the performers gathered on stage to sing a rousing rendition of "God Bless America." It was the perfect way to end the night, leaving everyone feeling uplifted and inspired, and reminding them of the importance of this annual tradition.

A Capitol Fourth is more than just a fireworks show - it is a celebration of the American spirit, and a tribute to the principles that make this country great. Through its blend of music, dance, and spoken word, it offers a glimpse into the heart and soul of a nation, and a reminder of what it truly means to be an American.
