Burnistoun is a sketch comedy show that takes place in the fictional town of Burnistoun, a place that is defined by its cast of eccentric characters and their bizarre antics. The show stars Iain Connell and Robert Florence, who also created and wrote the series. They play multiple characters throughout the show, from the hapless police officers PC Greg and PC Bruce to the surly newsagent Lawrence and the lovable weirdo Jolly Boy John.

Other cast members include Kirsty Strain, Richard Rankin, Allan Miller, and Louise Stewart, who all bring their own unique talents and comedic flair to the show.

Each episode of Burnistoun is filled with a series of interrelated sketches, ranging from the absurd to the surreal. Some of the most memorable sketches include the Burnistoun Butcher, who takes great pleasure in tormenting his customers, and the Burnistoun Health Centre, where the staff are more concerned with their own dramas than the health of their patients.

The show also features recurring characters like Paul and Walter, two middle-aged men who are perpetually stuck in the 1980s, and McGregor and Toshney, two football commentators who struggle to keep up with the action on the pitch.

One of the standout sketches from the show is the Quality Polis, a hilarious spoof of reality TV cop shows. In this sketch, PC Greg and PC Bruce try to improve their image by participating in a documentary about the police force, but their efforts only lead to more chaos and incompetence.

Despite its absurdist humor, Burnistoun also touches on some deeper themes, such as loneliness, isolation, and the struggles of everyday life. These moments of pathos give the show a depth and nuance that sets it apart from other sketch comedy series.

Overall, Burnistoun is a delightfully weird and offbeat show that is sure to appeal to anyone with a taste for the absurd. With its talented cast of performers and its endless supply of bizarre sketches, it is a true gem of British comedy that is not to be missed.
