Horatio Caine's intelligent, extremely competent team is made up of multiple specialists. The cast in the first seasons includes blond bombshell Calleigh Duquesne, handsome Latin gentleman Eric Delko, whose real last name is too long and complicated for people to pronounce, and cute but disorganized Tim Speedle. Impeccably-dressed Dr. Alexx Woods and long-suffering detective Frank Tripp round out the cast as the medical examiner and a homicide detective that the CSIs work with.
Caine is a demanding but protective boss, who goes to great lengths for the victims of crimes. He has a calm exterior that he rarely allows to get ruffled, but feels deeply for those who are suffering. His people are under his protection, and he defends them forcefully from any outside threat.
Southern-born Calleigh Duquesne is gorgeous, well-mannered, and soft-spoken. This tends to make people think she's a pushover or not so bright, but nothing could be further from the truth. Cuban and Russian Eric Delko has a not-so-hidden affection for her that she kindly but firmly rebuffs. Calleigh is the team's ballistics expert.
Putting on a pair of fins and a SCUBA tank comes easily to Eric Delko, who is the team's water recovery expert. When he's not doing that, he works with drugs and fingerprints. Trace expert Tim Speedle often complements his skills at a crime scene.
Dr. Alexx Woods mothers both the team and the deceased who end up in her lab. She manages to do it all while rarely letting a hair fall out of place. One of the few people who can get Horatio to reconsider when he's stuck on something, she plays a key role in the team dynamics despite spending most of her time apart from them.
Later seasons of the show involve additional personnel such as DNA tech Natalia Boa Vista and detective Ryan Wolfe. The show ran for 10 seasons before being the first of the CSI franchise to be cancelled in 2012. During its run, it was wildly popular and maintained a high viewing audience even in tough slots.
