House Husbands is an Australian television drama series that was screened on BET between 2012 and 2017. Created by Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt, the show revolves around four stay-at-home dads who are trying to balance their personal and professional lives while taking care of their families.

The main characters of the show are Justin (Firass Dirani), Mark (Gyton Grantley), Lewis (Gary Sweet), and Kane (Rhys Muldoon). Justin is a former athlete who is married to his childhood sweetheart and is the father of three children. Mark is a successful businessman who gave up his career to stay at home and take care of his children. Lewis is a plumber who is married to a doctor and has stepped out of his masculine mold to become a house husband. Kane is an English teacher who is married to a high-profile lawyer and is raising their son.

Throughout the series, the four house husbands face new challenges and obstacles, whether it be the struggles of unemployment, a heated custody battle, or health struggles within their family. Despite their gender roles being reversed, they have to confront the same issues any parent faces from the pressures of keeping their families together while trying to create healthy and happy homes. The show takes a unique perspective and draws attention to the roles of men in households and their participation much beyond being the primary breadwinner.

The biggest selling point of House Husbands is how it handles the various themes and storylines within the show. It is both humorous and moving, and the plot twists are surprising yet believable.

It’s a delightful display of the complexities in modern-day parenthood and yet maintains the necessary lightness and humour to keep audiences hooked. The dads represent a range of moral and societal values, bringing in diversity in terms of character growth and plot direction. With their ups and downs, House Husbands successfully creates relatable and authentic families, which viewers can empathize with.

Another strength of the series is the impressive cast that brings the characters to life. The show boasts some of the most skilled actors in the industry, making it easy to get attached to them personally. From Firass Dirani's portrayal of a football player facing retirement to Rhys Muldoon's performance as an English teacher balancing fatherhood and teaching, it is hard not to get invested in these characters' lives. Each of the actors brings something new to their roles.

The show also does an excellent job of showcasing the roles of both men and women in domestic settings. The male characters offer a different perspective to the conventional thought of men not capable of handling domestic chores while the female characters provide necessary help and support to their partners get through their struggles.

Overall, House Husbands is a well-written and well-acted series that will make any viewer laugh and cry. It reintroduces the idea of breaking gender roles and how it is a community effort that does no harm. If you're looking for a heartfelt show with great acting and thought-provoking themes, House Husbands is definitely worth watching.
