Ep 20. Home Wreckers

As the title suggests, Home Wreckers is all about how people can ruin homes or relationships even when they don't intend to. The episode begins with Ted and Barney visiting a casino, where they bump into a couple who are having issues in their relationship. Ted and Barney, being the gentlemen they are, offer to mediate and try to fix things between them. However, things take a strange turn when they end up leaving the couple alone in Ted's apartment, and the couple proceeds to have sex on Ted's couch.

Meanwhile, Robin has been asked to watch her co-anchor, Sandy Rivers' dog for the weekend. She reluctantly agrees, but soon learns that taking care of a dog is much harder than she anticipated. She enlists the help of Lily, who is more than happy to help out, but things take an awkward turn when they accidentally kiss.

Marshall, on the other hand, is having trouble keeping his new job a secret from his old boss, Arthur. The stress of keeping the secret becomes too much for him, and he ends up breaking down and telling Arthur everything. Arthur is surprisingly supportive, and even offers him a job at his new company. Marshall is torn between loyalty to his old company, and the temptation of a better job.

Back to Ted's apartment, he and Barney return to find the couple having sex on his couch. They try to kick them out, but end up getting into a physical altercation with the couple. In the end, they manage to get them out, but the couch is ruined. Barney offers to pay for a new couch, but Ted insists that he wants the couple to pay for it.

It all comes to a head at the end of the episode when the couple returns with a check for the new couch, but also with news that they're breaking up. Ted and Barney realize that they inadvertently helped to ruin their relationship, and feel guilty about it. They try to make up for it by taking them out for a night on the town, but the couple ends up getting into a huge argument and storming off.

In the end, Robin and Lily come to Ted's apartment to find him, Barney, and the broken couch. They all sit down on the floor and share a moment of reflection. They realize that no matter how well-intentioned they are, they can still end up causing as much harm as good. But they also realize that they're in this together, and that they're always there for each other through thick and thin.

Home Wreckers is a typical How I Met Your Mother episode that combines humor, heart, and a bit of chaos. It's a reminder that even when things go wrong, we can always rely on our friends to be there for us.
