The television series entitled Riverworld is centered on the adventures and challenges of Matt Ellman and his girlfriend Jessie. Matt is a journalist who reports about the progress of wars. He lives in Singapore with his beautiful girlfriend Jessie whom he loves so much. One day when Matt is just about to propose to Jessie, a terrorist comes around the area and explodes a suicide bomb which kills them. Matt and Jessie later find themselves in a strange planet known as Riverworld. The inhabitants of Riverworld are all the people who have lived and died on Earth. They all get reborn in this mysterious planet and live by the banks of the main river in the planet. Riverworld is therefore a purgatory where all dead human beings have a second chance to live again.

Matt comes across some of his friends and other people he had heard and read about while on Earth. Some of them become his allies while others become his adversaries. His adversaries include men like Francisco Pizarro and Richard Francis. His allies include Samuel Clemens also known as Mark Twain the popular author and Tomoe Gozen the warrior and some other historical figures and war heroes. Matt starts enjoying his time in Riverworld with his new friends. Shortly after, they all discover that Riverworld has a main purpose for all who come there and it is also taken care of by some caretakers who are having a civil war.

The series was written by Robert Wolfe and Randall Badat. It was directed by Stuart Gillard and produced by Michael O'Connor. Music for the series was provided by Jim Guttridge and editing was done by James Symons. The captivating Cinematography was taken care of by Thomas Burstyn. The series aired on channels such as the Syfy channel and it was produced by the award winning production company Reunion Pictures.

The main characters in the series include Tahmoh Penikett starring as Matt and Laura Vandervoort as Jessie.
