South of Hell is an American suspense-horror TV series that premiered on WE tv on November 27, 2015. The show starred Mena Suvari in the lead role of Maria Abascal, a demon hunter who inherited her abilities from her mother. The series was created by Matt Lambert and Eli Roth and consisted of eight episodes.

Maria Abascal is a demon hunter who works in her own unique style. She leads a double life; one as a demon hunter and the other as a woman trying to hide her own dark secret. Maria is possessed by the demon Abigail, who fuels her passion for hunting down other demons.

The show takes place in a small town in South Carolina, Charleston, that is known for its supernatural history. The town is home to various supernatural beings such as witches, warlocks, and demons. It is said that the town's location makes it a gateway to hell. This provides the perfect setting for the show's plot, which revolves around Maria Abascal's struggles with her inner demon and the fight against demons.

Maria's partner in demon hunting is her brother David, played by Zachary Booth. David is a recovering addict and assists Maria in exorcisms. Maria and David's relationship is complicated as they share a dark past that led to David's addiction.

The show's primary antagonist is a powerful demon named Bael, who is determined to take over the town and make it his own personal playground. Bael is played by Bill Irwin, and his character is portrayed as highly intelligent and manipulative. He is a master in the art of deception and able to twist anyone to his will.

To combat Bael and his army of demons, Maria and David are occasionally assisted by fellow demon hunter, and Maria's ex-lover, Grace, played by Rosalyn R. Ross. Grace brings a different approach to demon hunting, which often clashes with Maria's, resulting in several power struggles.

South of Hell is not your typical horror series. The show explores complex themes of family, addiction, religion, and sexuality. Maria's character is developed in a way that is not often seen in TV shows. Her battle with her inner demon provides a unique perspective on addiction and the struggle to overcome it.

The show's cinematography is one of its strong points. The use of color is exceptional, with the town's gloomy setting providing an eerie atmosphere that adds to the show's suspense. The use of shadows and light provides an added layer of tension to each scene.

The show's storyline is not linear, and each episode provides a different perspective on the overall plot. The series finale brings together all the puzzle pieces, resulting in a satisfying resolution that ties up all the loose ends.

Overall, South of Hell is an underrated show that deserved more recognition than it received. The show's unique approach to horror and character development makes it stand out from other supernatural TV shows. The series offers a fresh perspective on the genre, and Mena Suvari's portrayal of Maria Abascal is nothing short of brilliant.

South of Hell is a series that is currently running and has 1 seasons (8 episodes). The series first aired on November 27, 2015.
