After facing several challenges in their quest for justice, Red and Dembe visit a remote area located on the oceanfront of New Jersey in order to escape the watchful eyes of their foes. There, Red is forced to confront his grief and guilt over a woman he once loved and lost, as well as the many terrible things he has done throughout his life. As he attempts to come to terms with his past, he discovers that his actions have had lasting repercussions and that he cannot outrun his dark history forever. Meanwhile, Dembe learns some important information about his own past and forms a new bond with a surprising ally. With danger lurking around every corner, Red and Dembe must rely on their wits and their courage to survive.
