The Lottery is a dystopian science fiction drama series that premiered on Lifetime in 2014. Set in the year 2025, the show follows a world where women have become infertile due to a mysterious fertility crisis, leaving the human race on the brink of extinction. At this point, the government has taken control of all fertility treatments and worked to produce a new strain of fertilizations called 100 embryos, with a chance to save the humankind.

Marley Shelton stars as Dr. Alison Lennon, the lead researcher on the 100 embryos project, and a genius scientist determined to save the human race. She has come up with 100 embryos' consecutive DNA, which have the potential to create the first viable human embryos since the fertility crisis began. Michael Graziadei plays Kyle Walker, a government worker tasked with overseeing the fertilization process and making sure everything runs smoothly.

David Alpay portrays James Lynch, a medical ethicist who questions the morality of artificially creating humans without their consent. Athena Karkanis is Vanessa Keller, a young journalist trying to uncover the truth about the government's secretive processes as the people of the world yearn for a chance for survival. On the other hand, Yul Vazquez plays President Westwood, a politician who is under a lot of pressure to secure the success of the 100 embryos project and provide hope to the people of the world.

Shelley Conn plays Dr. Vanessa Pell, a colleague of Dr. Lennon's who has her own set of ethical concerns. Martin Donovan portrays Darius Hayes, a billionaire who has invested heavily in the 100 embryos project and has a personal stake in its success. Together they make up the top-talent cast of the series.

The Lottery takes the audience into this world of desperation and hope, where those in power are forced to make difficult decisions to save mankind. However, the 100 embryos project is not without its complications, with the moral issues being raised by the procedure and the government's secrecy surrounding their operations.

The show emphasizes the contrasting viewpoints of ethically objective individuals. James Lynch argues that creating new life artificially without their consent is immoral, while Dr. Alison Lennon sees it as the only hope to save humanity. Vanessa Keller, the journalist, serves as the voice for the people, questioning the secretive government's motives and bringing these issues to light to the public.

Throughout the series, we see that Dr. Alison Lennon's dedication and commitment to this project are tested. She must grapple with the ethical implications of her work, while under intense scrutiny from the government officials who want quick results. With the stakes being high, the tension builds, and the audience is left wondering whether the 100 embryos will survive and, more importantly, bring hope to the human race.

The Lottery is an excellent blend of science fiction and social commentary. It touches on significant issues of scientific advancement, human morality, and corruption, all while taking us on a thrilling ride. The show keeps the audience on edge, and the performances from the lead cast are top-notch, making every moment worth watching.

Overall, The Lottery is a must-watch for those interested in science fiction, dystopian series, and society's perception of science and technology. Although there's only one season, the series left a lasting impact on viewers who watched it.
