Ep 4. The Eyes of Texas

Jake Epping finds himself in a dilemma in episode 4 of 11.22.63, titled "The Eyes of Texas." He has been tasked with stopping the assassination of John F. Kennedy, but his personal life is also thrown into chaos when he meets and falls in love with a woman named Sadie Dunhill.

The episode opens with Jake and Sadie on a date at a local high school football game. Their relationship starts to intensify, and they agree to go on a road trip to Dallas together. However, Jake's focus on the mission at hand makes him nervous about taking Sadie along. He fears that she might be in danger should anything happen during their trip.

Back in Jodie, Texas, Jake crosses paths with Bill Turcotte. Bill is trying to track down Lee Harvey Oswald, who he believes is the key to stopping the assassination. He has a lead on Oswald's whereabouts and convinces Jake to come along with him to find him.

Jake and Bill's search for Oswald takes them to a seedy motel in a small town in Texas. There, they come across a group of shady characters who claim to have information about Oswald's whereabouts. The duo is caught off guard when the motel manager kicks them out and tells them they can never return.

Meanwhile, Sadie takes a job as a school librarian in Jodie. She is excited about the opportunity to work in a field that she loves, but her passion for books puts her at odds with the school's principal. He doesn't want her checking out certain books to students, which she feels is unfair. Sadie's work struggles are exacerbated when she also becomes aware that some of the students are being brutally bullied.

Jake and Sadie's separate worlds start to collide when Jake gets a call from Bill late at night. Bill's lead on Oswald is a dead end, and he needs Jake's help. Jake sets out to help his friend, but he soon realizes that his involvement with Bill could put Sadie in imminent danger.

"The Eyes of Texas" is a suspenseful episode that highlights the difficulties that come with trying to balance personal relationships and the mission to save JFK. As Jake continues to get more involved with Sadie, his conflicting responsibilities put him in a state of constant unease. Despite his reservations, Jake remains determined to stop the assassination, and he'll stop at nothing to achieve his goal.
