In the third episode of season 1 of 11.22.63 titled "Other Voices, Other Rooms," Jake Epping continues his investigation into Lee Harvey Oswald's activities leading up to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He goes back in time to September of 1961 and poses as a substitute teacher at a high school where Oswald's wife, Marina, is enrolled.
Jake begins to get close to Marina and learns more about her life with Oswald. He also meets a young student named Harry Dunning, who has a tragic past that he wants to change. Harry was brutally attacked as a child by his alcoholic father, and his mother and siblings were also murdered in the same attack. Jake realizes that Harry's tragedy is the perfect opportunity for him to test the theory about whether changing the past can have positive consequences.
Jake tries to help Harry by going back in time to prevent the attack on his family, but finds out that altering history has severe consequences. The butterfly effect theory comes into play and Jake realizes that by changing Harry's past, he may have changed the future in ways he never anticipated.
