In a world full of television drama and reality shows about the heartache and struggle of weight loss comes a new show highlighting the emotional and physiological aspects of people who struggle with food addiction. Addicted To Food not only speaks to those fighting with obesity and food binging, but also sheds light onto other emotional eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia making the show all encompassing on the subject of food addictions. The show Addicted To Food travels to Buffalo Gap Texas near the city of Abilene, inside an eating disorder rehab center called Shades Of Hope. Throughout the season viewers get to experience Shades Of Hope's extremely difficult 42 day rehabilitation program from the perspective of 12 participants who are all struggling with food addictions. For their own reasons, and each with different stories the people involved are brought out of their emotional hurt and situations to combat their very real disorders that threaten their lives and relationships. Leading the program is therapist and founder of Shades of Hope Tennie McCarty, whose unusual methods have been changing people's lives for over 30 years with her expertise in addition and substance dependency. A recovered anorexic herself Tennie has a passion for helping those who struggle with food addictions and was led to build the rehab center in 1987. She puts emphasis on family problems and issues as well as resolving anger through her week long intensive workshops for eating disorders. During the 42 day program each participant has the opportunity to work one on one with Tennie and other supportive therapists, as well as in group situations to break their addiction cycles. Through challenges and other goal oriented activities each person will be directed toward building positive emotional responses to their problems and give them the foundation to lead healthy normal lives. The intense program is specifically designed to bring out all of the underlying reasons a person might struggle with food addiction. Addicted to Food is a show that is able to span all walks of life and bring hope and comfort to anyone struggling with an eating disorder with stories of triumph and regular people overcoming lifelong problems that they had long deemed hopeless situations.
