The episode "The Belfry" from season 1 of Alfred Hitchcock Presents focuses on a young couple, Jerry and Alice, who move into an old house with a belfry. They plan to renovate the house and turn it into a bed and breakfast, but things take a spooky turn when they hear strange noises coming from the belfry.

The couple soon discovers that the belfry houses an old bell that hasn't rung for years. They decide to have the bell removed, but when the workmen arrive to do so, they find that it's too heavy to move. Determined to get rid of the bell, Jerry decides to climb up into the belfry and dismantle it himself.

As Jerry climbs the stairs to the belfry, he begins to feel uneasy. When he reaches the top, he discovers that the bell is not the only thing up there - there is also a man sleeping. Jerry tries to wake the man up, but he is unresponsive. He realizes that the man has been dead for some time and begins to panic.

Meanwhile, Alice is worried about Jerry and decides to call the police. When they arrive, they find that Jerry is missing. They search the house and the surrounding area, but there is no sign of him. Finally, they decide to search the belfry.

As they climb the stairs, they too begin to feel uneasy. When they reach the top, they find Jerry lying on the floor, unconscious. They soon realize that he has fallen and hit his head on the bell.

The police take Jerry to the hospital, where he undergoes surgery to remove a blood clot. He recovers, but is left with amnesia and cannot remember what happened in the belfry. Alice tells him what she knows, but he remains troubled by the incident.

As the episode comes to a close, Alice decides to investigate the history of the house and the belfry. She discovers that the man in the belfry was a previous owner of the house who disappeared years earlier. She also learns that the bell was once used to summon the townspeople to deal with suspected witches.

Overall, "The Belfry" is an eerie and suspenseful episode that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The haunted house setting, along with the mystery of the dead man in the belfry, make for a memorable episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
