Astarotte's Toy is a quirky fantasy anime, or Japanese animation, that blends mythology, romance and sibling rivalry. The show centers on Astarotte Ygvar, a young succubus princess who is beginning to mature into an adult succubus. Although she is only ten years old, Astarotte's advisors tell her that she must begin forming a harem. Succubi require harems as they age in order to survive. Unfortunately, due to some childhood trauma, Astarotte strongly dislikes men. Her attendants and friends are all female, and Astarotte wants nothing to do with any males. Astarotte's advisors continue to press the issue, and Astarotte finally gives in. She agrees to begin building a harem, but she has a condition. She wants her advisors to bring her a human. Humans are supposedly very rare, and Astarotte wants something rare in her harem. Astarotte's attendants quickly snag Naoya Tohara, a twenty three year old man who has already had some encounters with succubi. At first, Naoya has no desire to leave his home to live in Astarotte's harem. However, when Naoya is told that Astarotte is actually a lonely little girl, he agrees to go and spend some time with her. Like Astarotte, though, Naoya agrees on one condition. He must be allowed to bring his ten year old daughter Asahu with him. Asahu is the product of Naoya's previous encounter with a succubus. In reality, she is actually Astarotte's half sister. However, Naoya decides to keep this fact a secret. It takes Astarotte some time to get used to having the two new guests in her home. However, Astarotte and Asahu quickly become good friends, and Astarotte slowly begins to warm up to Naoya as well. As time passes and Astarotte grows up, she begins to wonder if romance will blossom between Naoya and herself.
