R-15 is a Japanese anime television series based on a series of light novels written by Hiroyuki Fushimi and illustrated by Takuya Fugima. Both the light novels and anime television series explore adult themes about relationships and the attitude of people towards erotic fiction; the single twelve epipsode season of the anime was produced by the AIC studio and originally broadcast in 2011. R-15 was written by Sumio Uetake and directed by Munenori Nawa; the show focuses on a student in a specialist high school for genius students in various academic and artistic fields. The show opens with the hero of R-15, Taketo Akutagawa applying for acceptance into a school for geniuses called the Inspiration Academy Private High School; upon being accepted to the school because of his talent for writing erotic fiction Taketo attempts to become the world's greatest writer and find as many girlfriends as possible. Initially Taketo hides his talent from the other members of the school as he is scared of how they will react to him; to help achieve his dream of becoming a great writer Taketo joins the school newspaper and interviews a number of his school classmates, discovering secrets and mysteries about their lives. Finally, Taketo's schoolmates uncovered his talent for writing erotic fiction and classify him as perverted because of the type of fiction he produces. During the series Taketo is thrown together with a shy young girl, called Fukume who is a talented musician from a family of talented musicians. During each episode a stand alone story is told and the story arc revolving around the aims of Taketo to become a great artist is advanced. During the season Taketo wins the respect of his classmates as he becomes a popular member of the school and writes some interesting stories for the school newspaper. A competition is established in the second half of the season pitting the different classes against each other under rules established by the top class of the school.
