Attack on Titan: Junior High is a comedically satiric take on action based anime. It begins by creating expectations for something far more serious. The landscape is presented as an apocalyptic wasteland where giant titans have decimated all but a single city on earth. The opening continues to show a team of brave young men and women rushing to battle. But it quickly shows that they're not heading off to fight titans at all. In fact, the attack in the title is more about junior high based hijinks than it is about fighting.

The setting itself might be quite serious. But the tone is all comedy. Fighting titans is no longer physical. In fact, it's limited to such things as a titan stealing the sandwich of one of the main characters. In fact, this initial sandwich eating is what sets off some of the shows storylines about living together in peace. Eren Yeager needs the help of Mikasa Ackerman to overcome his antisocial dislike of titans after the initial sandwich eating incident. Along the way the pair and their cast of friends need to overcome things such as being late to school or similar events. All while Eren tries to decide just how to relate to the titans.
