In the episode "Sweet And Spicy" of Beat Bobby Flay, two talented chefs battle it out in the kitchen for the chance to take down celebrity chef Bobby Flay. The first competitor, a self-taught cook from Georgia named Devin, brings her southern charm and unique twist on classic dishes to the table. She is known for her ability to combine sweet and savory flavors to create mouthwatering dishes that leave her customers always wanting more.
Her challenger is a New York native, Chef Andy, who comes from a long line of chefs and has been cooking since he was a young boy. He has spent the majority of his career in Italian restaurants, but has also dabbled in Asian and French cuisine. Chef Andy is known for his fiery personality and bold, spicy dishes that pack a punch.
In the first round, the chefs must create a dish featuring a mystery ingredient chosen by Bobby Flay. The ingredient? Chorizo. Both chefs are momentarily thrown off by the challenge, but quickly get to work coming up with their own unique spin on the classic Mexican sausage. Devin decides to make a chorizo-stuffed pork chop with a side of creamy grits and blackberry chutney. Chef Andy opts for a grilled chorizo and shrimp skewer, with a spicy avocado cilantro sauce and a side of elote.
After tasting both dishes, guest judges Alex Guarnaschelli and Michael Voltaggio are tasked with choosing the winner. While both dishes were delicious, only one can move on to the next round. The judges ultimately select Devin’s dish, impressing both competitors and giving her an advantage going into the next round.
For the second round, Devin gets to choose the signature dish that she wants to challenge Bobby Flay with. She decides to make shrimp and grits, a dish that she is particularly proud of. Devin explains that she has put her own twist on the classic southern dish by adding a spicy mango salsa to complement the shrimp. The judges are impressed with the dish, but wonder if it will be enough to take down Bobby Flay.
Chef Bobby Flay, however, is not an easy competitor to beat. He has a long-standing reputation as one of the best chefs in the world, with a unique ability to fuse different flavors and cuisines together to create mouthwatering dishes. For the signature dish challenge, he decides to make a spicy tuna roll with a unique twist. Instead of using traditional sushi rice, he opts for crispy rice cakes as the base for the roll. He also adds a spicy aioli and a sweet and sour soy glaze to elevate the dish to new heights.
The judges are blown away by both dishes, but ultimately must choose a winner. After much debate, they select the winner, who will move on to the final round to face off against Bobby Flay in a cook-off for the ages.
In the final round, the chefs must create a dish featuring a secret ingredient chosen by Bobby Flay. The ingredient? Cactus. Both chefs are once again thrown off by the surprise ingredient, but quickly get to work coming up with their own unique spin on the prickly plant. Devin decides to make a cactus and shrimp ceviche with a spicy mango salsa. Chef Bobby Flay decides to make a cactus and avocado salad, with a grilled steak and a spicy cilantro vinaigrette.
After sampling both dishes, the judges are once again tasked with choosing the winner. They are blown away by the creativity of both dishes, but ultimately must declare a winner. Who will come out on top? You’ll have to tune in to find out in this exciting episode of Beat Bobby Flay.
