In the third episode of season seven of the popular Food Network show, Beat Bobby Flay, two chefs go head-to-head in a barbecue battle. Titled "Red, White and BBQ," this episode features two cooks who are confident that they have what it takes to outcook the famous chef.
The first candidate is a chef from North Carolina named Matthew Register. Register is a self-taught pit master who has gained a following by smoking meats in a non-traditional way. He's hoping to impress both the judges and Bobby Flay with his unique approach to barbecue.
The other chef is a seasoned professional named Moe Issa. Issa has been in the culinary business for over 30 years, and he's been cooking barbecue since he was a child. He's confident that his experience will give him the edge over his opponent.
The competition kicks off with the chefs presenting their signature dishes to the judges. Register offers up his "poultry rub," which is a smoked chicken served with a unique rub made with a blend of exotic spices and seasonings. Issa's signature dish is a brisket that he's been perfecting for over 20 years, and he's hoping it will secure his win.
After tasting both dishes, the judges have a tough decision to make. Both dishes are delicious, but ultimately, they give the edge to Issa. However, the competition is far from over, and both chefs know that anything can happen in the next round.
The second round of competition is a surprise ingredient round, which means that Bobby Flay has chosen an unexpected ingredient that both chefs must incorporate into their dishes. For this episode, the surprise ingredient is shrimp.
Register chooses to create a shrimp and grits barbecue dish, which he calls "shrimp and grits three ways." Meanwhile, Issa opts to make a barbecue shrimp dish with a spicy kick that he's confident will impress the judges.
Once again, the judges have a difficult time deciding between the two dishes. While they appreciate the creativity of Register's shrimp and grits dish, they ultimately give the win to Issa for his perfectly cooked shrimp with just the right amount of spice.
Finally, it's time for the final round of competition. For this round, both chefs must create their own barbecue dish of choice. With no surprise ingredient or specific restrictions, this round is entirely up to the chefs to create something truly special.
Register chooses to make a dish that he's been perfecting for years. His "pork belly burnt ends" are made with a spicy brown sugar rub and are smoked to perfection. Issa, on the other hand, decides to create a classic barbecue dish--ribs. However, his ribs are anything but traditional, as he's perfected a unique spice blend that he believes will set his dish apart.
After trying both dishes, the judges are faced with another tough decision. Both dishes are delicious and expertly cooked, but ultimately, one chef must come out on top. Who will it be?
"Red, White and BBQ" is a thrilling episode of Beat Bobby Flay that showcases two talented and dedicated chefs. It's a must-watch for barbecue lovers and anyone who appreciates a good cooking competition.
