The show Blue Water High follows the lives of a group of aspiring teenage surfers who have migrated to the famous coastal community of Blue Water Beach. In season 1 episode 1 titled, The Contenders, we are introduced to the lead characters- Matt, Anna, Fly, Bec, Edge, and Heath.

As the episode progresses, we see each of the surfers going through their training routine, pushing their limits, and working hard to be their best. The rivalry between Matt and Heath becomes apparent, with Heath trying to belittle Matt at every chance he gets.
The girl contenders form a close bond, with Anna and Bec teaming up for training sessions and Fly offering his support whenever he can. The boys, on the other hand, struggle to find common ground, with Edge being somewhat of an outsider in the group.

Here, Gary explains that they are going to have to compete for a place in the Academy's surf team.
