In season 4 episode 6 of Burgers, Brew & 'Que titled Sweet Treats and Savory Meats, host Michael Symon takes viewers on a mouth-watering journey across the country to try some of the best sweet and savory dishes around. The episode starts with Michael in Nashville, Tennessee, where he meets with pitmaster Carey Bringle to try his famous smoked bologna sandwich at Peg Leg Porker. The smoky, juicy bologna sandwich comes topped with slaw and hot sauce, and Michael can't get enough.
Next, Michael travels to Lexington, Kentucky, to visit Staxx BBQ, where owner and pitmaster Eric Davis serves up a unique dish called the "Summer Salad." This dish features slow-cooked pork belly, watermelon, and cucumbers tossed in a sweet and sour sauce. Michael loves the combination of flavors and textures in this dish and can't resist going back for seconds.
The next stop on Michael's culinary tour is Columbus, Ohio, where he visits Hot Chicken Takeover to try their famous Nashville-style hot chicken. Owner Joe DeLoss takes Michael through the steps of making the perfect hot chicken, and Michael is impressed by the juicy, crispy result. But it's not just about the chicken at Hot Chicken Takeover - Michael also tries their incredible mac and cheese.
After Columbus, Michael heads to Sonoma, California, to visit The Girl & the Fig, where owner Sondra Bernstein serves up some of the most delicious sweet and savory dishes around. Michael tries the Fig and Pig sandwich, which features bacon, ham, and figs on a toasted baguette. He's also blown away by the restaurant's sweet dish - the Caramelized Apple Bread Pudding.
The final stop on Michael's tour takes him to New York City, where he meets with pastry chef Dominique Ansel to try his famous pastry, the Cronut. This croissant-doughnut hybrid has taken the food world by storm, and Michael can't wait to try it. But he doesn't stop there - Dominique also serves up a savory dish, the Lobster Tail Pastrami Croissant, which Michael calls "one of the most unique things I've ever tasted."
Throughout the episode, Michael meets with chefs, pitmasters, and pastry chefs who are passionate about creating unique flavor combinations using both sweet and savory ingredients.
