Cheyenne (1955) season 3 episode 3, titled "The Mutton Puncher", follows the adventures of Cheyenne Bodie, a former Army scout who now travels the Old West, seeking excitement and adventure. In this episode, Cheyenne arrives in a small town called Weno, where he meets a man named Tom Hadley, who is known for his prowess as a mutton puncher.
Cheyenne soon learns that mutton punching is a strange and somewhat brutal sport, in which contestants attempt to knock each other off a log by punching them in the stomach. Tom is one of the best mutton punchers around, and is planning to compete in the town's annual mutton punching championship.
As Cheyenne gets to know Tom, he begins to suspect that there is something shady going on behind the scenes. It seems that the wealthy owner of the local slaughterhouse, a man named George Binns, is using the mutton punching competition as a way to get rid of some unwanted competition.
Cheyenne decides to investigate further, and soon discovers that Binns is bribing the other contestants to throw the match, so that Tom will win and Binns can take over the mutton-punching business. Cheyenne knows that this isn't right, and decides to intervene.
In the thrilling climax of the episode, Cheyenne takes on Tom in the mutton-punching ring. The two men trade blows back and forth, until Cheyenne finally comes out on top. In the end, justice is served, and Binns is exposed for the crook that he is.
Through it all, Cheyenne remains true to his code of honor and justice, always willing to stand up for what is right. The episode is a classic example of the Western genre, with lots of action, drama, and suspense. Fans of the show will certainly enjoy watching Cheyenne in action once again, as he battles against the forces of greed and corruption.
