In the eighth episode of season five of Desperate Housewives, titled "City on Fire," the residents of Wisteria Lane are in for some shocking news as the episode takes a dramatic turn with a major disaster.

The episode opens with a daytime scene, where the ladies find out that Dave Williams is suffering from some mental stress. Meanwhile, Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman) is trying to juggle work and home life as she has taken on the responsibility of heading a PTA committee. Gaby Solis (Eva Longoria) is trying to resolve issues with Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan) over her baby, while Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher) is trying to moving her romantic life forward with Jackson Braddock (Gale Harold).

Things take a turn for the worse when a major fire breaks out in a local nightclub that sets off a chain of events that affects all the residents of Wisteria Lane. The fire brings the whole community together, evoking feelings of anxiety and fear in the residents, who all waited anxiously to hear if any of their loved ones were hurt.

In the middle of all this tragedy, Dave Williams (Neal McDonough), the newest resident on the Lane, becomes increasingly unhinged. Dave's behavior continues to concern his wife and the other residents, especially as it appears that Dave's main goal is to seek revenge.

As the day unfolds, the characters are faced with various personal struggles while they deal with the aftermath of the fire, and everyone has to come together to deal with a devastating tragedy that affects the life of everyone in the neighborhood.

The episode highlights the different reactions among the residents on the Lane as they react to the disaster, which becomes a focal point for this season. As the women try to keep their own secrets safe, they come to realize how interconnected their lives are, and this crisis brings them closer to each other.

The performances delivered by the show's top-notch cast are outstanding, with each actor bringing their A-game to the table. Huffman, Longoria, Hatcher, and Cross, in particular, stand out, delivering powerful and emotional performances that leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

Overall, "City on Fire" is a gripping, emotional, and intense episode that is not to be missed. The show's writers did an excellent job of taking the plot to unexpected heights, and the episode is an impressive example of the art of storytelling. Season five has taken a more dramatic turn compared to previous seasons, and this episode is one of the best examples of how Desperate Housewives continues to deliver the goods even in its later seasons.
