Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Season 2017 Episode 28 College Town Champs

  • November 17, 2017

In this episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri visits college towns across the country to check out some of the local food spots that have earned a reputation as champions in their communities. From a tiny seafood shack in Austin, Texas, to a burger joint in Detroit, Michigan, Fieri samples the unique flavors and culinary skills of each establishment. He starts off at a restaurant in Auburn, Alabama, that serves up classic Southern dishes like fried chicken and mac and cheese. Next up is a gourmet hot dog stand in Madison, Wisconsin, where Fieri tries the "Sconnie" dog topped with mac and cheese and crispy onions. Then it's off to Lawrence, Kansas, to visit a pizzeria that uses a coal-fired oven to create crispy, charred crusts on their pizzas.

In Austin, Fieri discovers a seafood spot that has been in business for over 70 years and serves up everything from oysters to shrimp po'boys. He then heads to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to check out a deli that has been serving up monster-sized sandwiches to University of Michigan students for over 40 years. Fieri also stops by a Mexican restaurant in Tucson, Arizona, that has been a favorite of locals for decades and is known for their Sonoran-style hot dogs.

At each stop, Fieri talks with the owners and staff to learn more about the history and inspiration behind their food. He also gets a behind-the-scenes look at how each dish is prepared, from hand-cutting fries to making fresh dough for pizza crusts. With so many unique flavors and culinary traditions represented, College Town Champs is a must-watch for foodies and travelers looking to explore the best local cuisine in college towns across America.
