In season 6 episode 10 of Dog Whisperer, called "Most Aggressive Breeds," canine behaviorist Cesar Millan takes on some of the most challenging cases he's ever encountered. He focuses on several breeds that are often labeled as aggressive, including Pit Bulls, Dobermans, and Rottweilers.
The episode begins with Cesar visiting a family who are struggling with their Doberman Pinscher, Duke. Duke is aggressive towards other dogs and people, and the family is worried about his behavior around their young children. Cesar observes Duke's behavior and determines that he has been improperly socialized and is insecure in his role in the family. Cesar works with the family to establish clear rules and boundaries for Duke, as well as providing training exercises to help build his confidence.
Next, Cesar visits a Pit Bull named Diesel, who has a history of biting. The owners are concerned that Diesel will attack again and they don't know how to control him. Cesar starts by showing the owners how to establish themselves as calm and assertive leaders in Diesel's eyes. He then works on desensitizing Diesel to triggers that make him aggressive, teaching him to relax and respond to his owners' commands.
In another case, Cesar meets a Rottweiler named Bruno who has become overly protective of his owner. Bruno growls and barks at anyone who approaches the owner, making it difficult for her to have visitors or go out in public. Cesar works with the owner to help her assert her leadership role with Bruno and establish rules for his behavior. He also introduces Bruno to people and other dogs in a controlled environment, to help him learn that not everyone is a threat.
In the final case of the episode, Cesar meets a couple who are struggling to control their Great Dane, Rufus. Rufus has become aggressive towards strangers and is starting to become destructive in the home. Cesar observes that Rufus is not getting enough exercise or mental stimulation, and he recommends activities that will help burn off the dog's excess energy. He also works with the couple to address Rufus's aggression towards strangers, teaching them how to assert their leadership and provide him with appropriate boundaries.
Throughout the episode, Cesar emphasizes the importance of proper socialization and leadership in preventing aggressive behavior in dogs. He shows how anyone can become an effective pack leader with the right mindset and training techniques. By the end of the episode, each of the dogs has made significant progress towards being more well-behaved and less aggressive, giving hope to their owners and demonstrating the power of positive training.
