EastEnders Season 26 Episode 144 Kat's Back

  • September 20, 2010

Kat's Back is the 144th episode of the 26th season of EastEnders. The episode centres on the return of Kat Slater to the Square after a lengthy absence.

As the episode begins, the residents of Walford are going about their daily lives when a woman wearing a leopard-print coat walks into the Queen Vic. It quickly becomes clear that this is none other than Kat Slater, who has been away in Spain for some time. Being the larger-than-life character that she is, Kat's arrival causes a stir among the other inhabitants of Albert Square. Some are thrilled to see her, while others are wary of her unpredictability.

One person who is particularly pleased to see Kat is her cousin Stacey Slater. Stacey has been struggling to cope with the demands of motherhood and is in need of some support. Kat, knowing what it's like to be a young mother, offers to help out with the children. In return, Stacey gives Kat a place to stay in her home.

As Kat settles back into life in the Square, it becomes clear that she has unfinished business with a number of people. One of these is her ex-husband Alfie Moon, who Kat believes has been keeping secrets from her. She confronts Alfie, demanding to know the truth about what he's been up to while she's been away. Alfie is clearly uncomfortable with the situation and tries to avoid the question. However, it's clear that this is a conversation that needs to be had sooner rather than later.

Another person with whom Kat has unfinished business is Jean Slater, her on-again, off-again sister-in-law. Jean is a nervous wreck at the best of times, but with Kat back in the picture, her anxiety levels go through the roof. Kat does her best to reassure Jean and tries to make amends for past wrongs, but it's clear that there is still some tension between the two women.

Elsewhere in the episode, we see Kat reconnecting with some of her old friends, including market stall holder Donna and the lovable rogue Derek. There are some touching moments as Kat reminisces about old times and catches up on what's been happening in their lives.

As the episode draws to a close, we see Kat sitting alone in Stacey's living room, deep in thought. It's clear that she's been through a lot during her time away and is still struggling to come to terms with some of the things that have happened. However, we also see a glimmer of hope in her eyes, as if she's finally starting to believe that maybe, just maybe, things can be different this time around.

Overall, Kat's Back is a funny, poignant and often touching episode which serves as a welcome reminder of what makes EastEnders such a beloved soap opera. With its mix of drama, humour and heart, it's sure to be a hit with fans of the show and newcomers alike.
