Ep 23. Hot Buttered Ed
- December 6, 1999
In the second season, twenty-third episode of Ed, Edd n' Eddy, entitled "Hot Buttered Ed," the Eds and the rest of the Cul-de-Sac kids discover a new way to make money -- selling homemade hot buttered toast to their neighbors. However, the success of their new venture is threatened by the constant interference of the Kanker Sisters.
Eddy, the leader of the Eds, comes up with the idea of selling hot buttered toast after observing the high demand for the food item during breakfast time. The Eds then proceed to set up a makeshift stand in front of Eddy's house and begin selling toast made using a toaster-powered by a car battery.
At first, the business seems to be a great success, with the Eds raking in a good amount of cash. However, the Kanker Sisters soon get wind of the venture and decide to muscle in on the action. The Kankers set up their own hot toast stand right next to the Eds and begin stealing their customers.
Eddy tries various tactics to outcompete the Kankers, including decorating his stand with festive lights and trying to undercut their prices. However, all his plans are undone by the Kankers' sheer ruthlessness.
As the Eds' profits dwindle, Edd comes up with a plan to move their stand to different locations around the Cul-de-Sac. This proves to be successful, as they manage to attract a considerable number of customers, including the Kanker Sisters.
In the end, the Eds' success is short-lived when they realise that they have been selling hot buttered toast made using Eddy's brother's expensive butter supply. When Eddy's brother returns home and discovers the theft, he forces the Eds to pay for the damage, leaving them broke once again.
Overall, "Hot Buttered Ed" is a great episode that showcases the Eds' entrepreneurial spirit and their unwavering determination to make a quick buck. The episode is full of humor, primarily due to the Eds' bumbling attempts to compete with the Kankers. The addition of Eddy's brother as a new character adds a fresh twist to the show and provides an interesting subplot.
