Ep 15. You Can't Tell a Crook by His Cover

Frasier season 1 episode 15 is titled "You Can't Tell a Crook by His Cover". In this episode, Frasier is asked by his ex-cop friend, Doug, to get his son, a struggling artist, a job at the radio station. Frasier reluctantly agrees and sets up an interview with the station's manager, Kate. Meanwhile, Martin takes a job as a security guard at a department store, but ends up getting fired for mistaking a customer for a shoplifter. Feeling down, Martin confides in Niles that he wishes he could have his old job back as a police detective. Niles thinks this is a great idea and decides to start training Martin to become a private detective.

Back at the radio station, Frasier discovers that Kate has been stealing money from the station and covering it up by falsifying records. Frasier confronts her about it, but she denies the accusations and threatens to sue him. Determined to prove his suspicions, Frasier teams up with Doug to set a trap for Kate.

The plan involves pretending to be a shady businessman looking to launder money through the radio station. Kate takes the bait and agrees to help them, but it soon becomes clear that they are not alone. A real criminal gang is also interested in using the radio station for their illegal activities and they confront Frasier and Doug at gunpoint. In the end, Martin comes to their rescue, using his newly acquired detective skills to apprehend the criminals and save the day.

As the episode comes to a close, Frasier and Martin have a heart-to-heart about their respective careers and Martin confesses that he is happy being a security guard. Meanwhile, Doug's son decides to take his career in a new direction and quits art to become a private detective. The episode ends with Frasier and Niles mocking Martin's security guard job, only to be interrupted by a phone call from Martin's boss asking him to come back to work.
