Frasier Crane, a pompous and self-centered radio psychiatrist, is now on call to give some advice to one of his listeners. The "Dear Frasier" segment appears to be going well as he dispenses his opinions about the caller's sex life. However, things take a turn for the worse when Frasier begins to have second thoughts about his advice and realizes that it may have actually led the caller to an unpleasant incident. Feeling guilty and concerned, Frasier tries to take responsibility for his actions and goes to the caller's former place of employment to help sort things out.

Meanwhile, Frasier's father Martin, a retired police officer, ends up getting a new job at a department store as a security guard. He excitedly tells his sons that he's accepted the position, but they express doubt about his ability to handle the job. Martin, who has been feeling a bit undervalued since moving in with Frasier and his brother Niles, wants to prove that he can still be useful and capable, despite his age.

As the episode unfolds, it's clear that both Frasier and Martin are struggling with their respective roles and responsibilities. Frasier's guilt over his inadvertent advice-giving and Martin's jitters about his new job are both taking a toll on their sense of confidence and self-worth.

To make matters worse, Frasier's ex-wife and occasional love interest Lilith Sternin pays a visit to Seattle and throws a wrench into his already tumultuous emotions. As Frasier navigates his complicated feelings for Lilith and tries to make amends for his mistake with the caller, Martin has to face some tough situations at work.

Overall, "Call Me Irresponsible" is an episode that highlights the complexities of human relationships and the difficulties that arise when people try to take on roles that are outside of their comfort zones. Through Frasier and Martin's struggles, viewers are reminded that it's okay to feel unsure or vulnerable and that taking responsibility for one's actions is a sign of maturity and growth. The episode also showcases the show's signature blend of humor, heart, and sharp wit, making it a must-watch for fans of the beloved sitcom.
