Freaks and Geeks is an innovative comedy that has a rabid cult following. The show produced 18 episodes and was created by Paul Feig. Judd Apatow co-produced the show which also had strong dramatic elements. The show was set during the early 1980s' in Northern Michigan. Freaks and Geeks followed a group of high school students.

The central characters were the Weir family. The two offspring of Harold and Jean Weir are high school Junior Lindsey and her little brother, freshman Sam. Lindsey is a straight A student who is feeling disenchanted with being known only as brain. She is attracted to the group of freaks who were considered the rough element at the school. She tries to branch out and befriend the group of loaners including school bad boy, Daniel Desario, and his wild girlfriend, Kim Kelly. Among other weighty issues that confronted Lindsey and her friends had to deal with were teen drug use, drinking, promiscuity, cheating and parental infidelity.

Freshman, Sam, hangs out with his longtime friends, Bill Haverchuck and Neal Schweiber. Sam and his friends are considered the geeks of the high school and have to deal with issues such as bullying, gym class, peer pressure and unrequited love for cheerleaders.

The show featured a cast of future star comedy actors including James Franco, Jason Segal, Seth Rogen, Linda Cardellini, Busy Phillips, Martin Starr, Samm Levine and John Frances Dailey. Several recognizable actors, who would often be used in Apatow's films, also appeared including Leslie Mann, Ben Stiller, Shia Lebouf, Rashida Jones and David Koechner.

Freaks and Geeks received great critical reviews. It was named one of the 100 greatest TV shows of all time by Time Magazine and was listed as one of TV Guide's best cult TV shows. TV Guide also named the show one of the 60 greatest drama shows of all time.

The show also was popular for its soundtrack which featured a who's who of 1970s' rock and roll's heavyweights such as The Who, Styx, Billy Joel, The Grateful Dead, Van Halen and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

  • Lindsay uses her opportunity to ask Vice President George Bush a question as revenge for banning Mr. Rosso from attending. Sam breaks up with Cindy after finding out her true personality.

  • Nick moves in with the Weirs after his father sells his drum set. Sam gets invited to a make out party and Neal thinks he knows how to spin the bottle to land where he aims it.

  • The Weirs attend the Sweibers' annual dinner party where Neal rebels against his father and turns his attention to ventriloquism. Kim breaks up with Daniel, who tries to become a punk rocker.

  • Lindsay tries to convince her dad to let her attend the Who's concert. Bill's mother shocks him with the news she is dating Mr. Fredricks, which causes him to rebel in gym class. Kim feels horrible after running over Millie's dog.

  • Alan places a peanut on highly allergic Bill's sandwich causing him to have a severe reaction. Lindsay asks for Millie's help after she forgets about a babysitting job and has tried smoking pot.

  • Sam finds out that Neal's father is having an affair. Ken falls for a tuba player in the school band.

  • Lindsay is distraught after she and her friends steal her families car and then have an accident. She rejoins the mathletes at the expense of a friend. Sam wants to change his image with a new hairstyle and cool clothes.

  • After getting caught hitchhiking, the Weir's decide to read Lindsay's diary to see what else she's doing. Bill makes a crank phone call to Mr. Fredricks and also voices his frustration of always being picked last for teams in gym class.

  • Lindsay wants to break up with Nick because of his constant pot smoking. Sam tries out as the replacement for the injured school mascot to get closer to Cindy.

  • Lindsay fears Nick is getting too serious about her. Sam is upset after Bill is named Cindy's lab partner and joins the yearbook club to get to spend more time with her.

  • Sam and his friends befriend a new girl in school. Lindsay and the gang decide to get fake I.D.'s so they can get into a bar to hear a hot band.

  • After Nick's father threatens him that he will be enlisting in the Army if her doesn't maintain a C average, Lindsay suggests he try out for a well known band looking for a drummer. Sam feels mortified after finding out he will have to shower after gym class.

  • Lindsay helps tutor Daniel for a test. Sam and his friends feel confused over their sex education class and watch a porno film to "learn the facts."

  • Sam has a new bully to worry about, and this ones a female. Kim invites Lindsay to dinner to prove to her mom that her friends are smart and nice.

  • Halloween finds Sam going trick-or-treating while Lindsay and her friends go around the neighborhood causing trouble. Jean is disappointed that Lindsay no longer gets excited over the holiday.

  • While the parents are away, Lindsey decides to hold a kegger at her home. Sam gets his friends to help him switch the keg to a non-alcoholic beer.

  • Lindsay quits the academic mathlete team and begins hanging around with a new crowd. She also tries to stop the teasing of a mentally challenged student. Sam ponders asking cheerleader Cindy Sanders to the homecoming dance while trying to handle a bully teasing him.
