Ep 4. Then That Means, at That Time...

As the fourth episode of the first season of Gantz titled "Then That Means, at That Time... " opens, the audience sees a little girl wandering the streets alone at night. Before the audience can get too concerned about her well-being, a group of young men appear, seemingly out of nowhere, and attempt to rob the girl. Luckily, Kei, who is one of the main protagonists of the show, is on the scene and tries to stop them. Unfortunately for Kei, he is badly outnumbered and outmatched. However, just as it seems like he is going to be severely beaten by the robbers, his Gantz suit materializes, and he is suddenly back in the strange room with the black sphere.

In this episode, the audience learns more about the mechanics of the show's world. In the room, Kei is greeted by the familiar, cold voice of the black orb and is instructed to wear his Gantz suit and participate in yet another game. Kei is joined by a handful of other players, one of whom he recognizes from the previous game. Additionally, there are a few new faces that the audience has not yet met. These new characters are quickly introduced, and the group is sent flying through the air to their new mission in an instant.

As the new mission begins, the audience is shown the target of their hunt. This time around, the targets are humanoid creatures that look incredibly similar to humans with the exception of their eyes, which are solid black. Once these monsters are introduced, the Gantz team is sent into a building, which is filled with the creatures, to complete their objective. The group completes their objective, but soon finds themselves in over their heads as the creatures seem to multiply and their numbers become overwhelming. The audience is on the edge of their seats as the characters try to escape the building.

While all of this is happening, the audience begins to learn more about the characters and their backstories. In particular, Kei's motivations for participating in the Gantz games are explored. The show takes a darker turn as the audience is shown aspects of Kei's life that he would rather keep hidden, including his obsession with a childhood crush and the regret he feels about not having the courage to confess his feelings to her when they were younger.

As the Gantz team continues to try to escape the building, they eventually find themselves in a large, multi-level room that looks like an old factory. In this room, there is a massive humanoid creature that is unlike any that the audience has seen before. It is massive, filling up most of the space in the room, and its body seems to be made of a patchwork of skin and metal. The creature is easily the most formidable foe that the Gantz team has faced yet, and the audience is left wondering if they will survive this encounter.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating the next episode. The audience is left to wonder if any of the Gantz team will survive their encounter with the massive, multi-limbed creature and whether or not Kei will make it back to his world alive.

Overall, the fourth episode of Gantz season 1 is a thrilling, action-packed episode that leaves the audience on the edge of their seats. The backstory and motivations of the characters are explored, making them feel more real and relatable.
