Detectives James Gordon and Harvey Bullock investigate a new drug that is sweeping through the streets of Gotham, called "Viper." The episode begins with two men high on Viper robbing a pharmacy, showing incredible strength and agility, before dying from mysterious side effects of the drug.
As Gordon and Bullock delve deeper into the case, they discover that Viper is being produced by a mysterious organization that is testing it on unsuspecting Gotham citizens, using them as human guinea pigs for their drug experiments. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne is still dealing with the aftermath of his parents' murder, and seeks comfort in training with Alfred, who is determined to teach him how to fight and defend himself.
The action heats up as Gordon and Bullock work around the clock to stop the organization behind Viper, and they soon learn that the drug is only the tip of the iceberg. The group behind Viper, known as "the League of Shadows," have much darker plans for Gotham.
To make matters worse, they introduce another villain into the mix – a man wearing a gas mask who becomes almost invincible after inhaling the Viper drug. This new villain soon becomes a major threat to the detectives as they try to take down the League of Shadows, and he proves to be a worthy adversary for even the most skilled fighters.
Throughout the episode, we see the different characters grappling with different personal challenges. Gordon is struggling with the pressure of being a good cop in a corrupt system, while Bullock is questioning his own morality as he is forced to make difficult decisions. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne is learning more about what it takes to become a hero, and we see the first glimpses of the Batman persona that he will eventually adopt.
All in all, episode 5 of Gotham's first season, titled "Viper," is a thrilling ride that introduces new villains and further develops the existing characters. With plenty of action, drama, and plot twists, it will keep viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
