Gundam Seed Destiny Season 1 Episode 20

Gundam Seed Destiny Season 1 Episode 20 Unseen Truth

  • February 26, 2005

As Kira and his crew try to come to grips with their confrontation with Logos and the EA's involvement in their lives, episodes of flashbacks and introspections fill the majority of episode 20, "Unseen Truth." Viewers are given new insight into many of the characters and their motivations.

The beginning of the episode follows Meer Campbell as she prepares for her next concert. She is approached by a reporter who asks her how she feels about Lacus Clyne's return and the fact that she seems to be growing more popular than Meer herself. Meer admits to feeling jealous but insists on focusing the interview on her upcoming performance.

Next, Athrun and Meyrin get into an argument about the situation they are in. Meyrin is frustrated with her inability to do anything substantial to help Lacus and Athrun while he is determined to keep going despite the obstacles. Meyrin accuses him of not caring about her feelings, but Athrun insists that he is motivated by a sense of duty to those he cares about.

Meanwhile, Durandal is shown preventing his old friend Reverend Malchio from making contact with Logos, demonstrating that Durandal is not allies with them and is hiding some sort of intentions.

The show jumps back in time to Shin during his second use of the Destiny's true power. He struggles with his own identity and the fact that he is fighting against people who were once his allies. Shinn's guilt drives him into a rage, but the battles that he faces leave him without any answers.

Flashbacks of Sting’s early life are shown, exposing the abuse he and his sister suffered from their father and the reasons why he is so desperate to protect her.

The flashbacks of Mellusha, a member of Sven's squad, offer a glimpse into the EA's plot to manipulate events behind the scenes.

An unfortunate side effect of this episode is that much of the dialogue is simply exposition for viewers, making it at times a bit dull. However, the flashbacks are informative and interesting, delving into the inner turmoil of characters that we have grown to love over many episodes. The episode ends with the cast members left to confront their foes with renewed determination and sense of self-discovery, setting up many interesting conflicts for future installments of Gundam Seed Destiny.
