Ep 8. Extras

Victoria Chase is in different kinds of movies, and each one of them is worse than the last. Her latest project, a zombie movie called "Brain Weevil 3" is her lowest-budget production so far, but she still manages to get the production company to hire her best friends Joy, Melanie, and Elka as extras. Being extras, they had to suffer through long hours and difficult working conditions while Victoria gets all the praise and attention she craves.

Meanwhile, Elka reveals a secret from her past that may jeopardize her friendship with Melanie and Joy. She had been a private investigator, and one of the cases she had worked on years ago had involved Melanie. Melanie had hired her to investigate her husband, but Elka never told Melanie the truth: that her husband had been cheating on her with men. Melanie finds it hard to forgive Elka for keeping such an important fact hidden for so long, but Victoria is more preoccupied with the question of whether or not she has what it takes to be a zombie.

As the day progresses, the girls go through a series of comical mishaps, from Joy getting hit in the head with a prop to Elka causing a power outage, but Victoria's decision to take a shot at playing a zombie changes everything. Initially hesitant, she discovers the cheap zombie makeup turns out to be useful for more than just the movie. The group finds themselves in a situation where they are required to save one another. After completing the shoot, the girls notice that the producer has created a cut of the film in which Victoria's zombie character is drinking out of a toilet bowl. After they get mad about this, the producer agrees to cut that part of the film and to give an executive position to Victoria.

In the end, the girls' bond is stronger than ever, and they all end up in the aforementioned scene in dresses that read 'Wicked'. The episode also features a tribute to Estelle Getty, who had played Sophia on The Golden Girls, the show that had partially inspired Hot in Cleveland.
